We will be delighted to welcome as a guest speaker this year Major General Peter Williams CMG OBE, a history graduate from Magdalene College, Cambridge and a renowned speaker on Military affairs, who will give his talk, “My Life as a Cold War Military Spy.” This covers his knowledge and experiences about the three Allied military liaison missions that operated as intelligence agencies in East Germany from 1949-90. Surely a “must” for as many as can make it.

Bryanston’s usual splendid 3-course sit-down lunch will complete the day.

Newcastle upon Tyne - Concert
Alumni and guests are welcome to join the Northumbrian Cambridge Association for an evening of music at The Sage, where The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc will be performing their new album.

The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc comprise Olav Luksengård Mjelva (Norway), Anders Hall (Sweden) and Kevin Henderson (Shetland). Individually they are regarded as three of the finest young fiddle players currently working in the international folk music scene, while collectively they are now finding themselves increasingly in demand across the world due to this unique collaboration.

The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc is the brainchild of Anders Hall who felt that combining the three distinctive fiddles styles of their respective countries and regions would create a special musical sound and experience. Norway, Sweden and Shetland have three of the richest fiddle traditions in the world, with documented historical links going back hundreds of years. The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc seek to bring those historical links and traditions alive and present them in a new, exciting, dynamic and meaningful fashion, while nevertheless remaining faithful to the roots of each tradition.

We have also made a booking for those of our group who wish to dine at the Sage Brasserie at 6 pm. Last year, the Brasserie offered us a set price of £16.00 for 2 courses and £20.00 for 3. A sample menu will be sent beforehand to people who sign up for the dinner and we shall send in your menu choices in advance.
